Well hello there, I’m back, with a brand new blog, but not just that I’ve got a brand new business name and a brand new website. Boooom! That’s right, I’m no longer B by Nicki, I’m now Just Brand You. So how did this come happen I hear you all ask? Well, it started with my website, and today I want to tell you why changing my website changed everything.
So let me start at the beginning. When I first launched I designed my website, and my amazing web developer Jess built it. I was so happy. It looked great. But then I grew. I pushed the boundaries more. I challenged Jess with the designs I was giving her. And she made them happen. So our websites started to stand out. I got more established and known for my style.
But I never changed my website. I was so busy worrying about my clients, and investing my time in making their websites kick ass, that I neglected mine.
And then one day, one of my wonderful clients said something to me. She told me that she felt my own website didn’t reflect me enough. Not personality wise. Not content wise. But in terms of the way it looked. In terms of how impactful it was. I’d outgrown it. And it had stopped representing me in the best way possible. It had stopped working for me. So I knew something had to change. I knew it could work harder.
That got me thinking. I took a step back and zoomed out. I thought about how I could work on the business, and not just in it. And I had a bit of an epiphany. For a long time I’d been Just Brand You on Instagram, and I thought, why not be Just Brand You, full stop. I always talk about consistency. And being that one true brand across every touchpoint. Just Brand You sums that up perfectly. It’s what my mission is all about.
So, as I started redesigning my new website I started working on a new logo too. I bet you’re reading this thinking, ‘that must’ve been a walk in the park for you!’ Well, let me tell you it absolutely WAS NOT. It was soooooo hard. Much tougher than working on my clients. But we got there. And my new logo looks pretty great too, even if I say so myself.
Anyway, back to the website. So the challenge I had was how do I make my website work harder. How do I make it reflect who I am, and what I can do for my clients?
#1 – I SHOWED MY PERSONALITY
I’m a huge believer in showing who you are. And what you’re all about. I thought my old website did that. But I did something absolutely game changing for my new one. I used video. I’d never done it before and I was sooooo nervous before we filmed it.
Luckily, it was behind the scenes of one of my shoots with the amazing Amanda, from AKP Branding Stories and I could not be happier with how it turned out. It just captured my personality perfectly
#2 – I MADE THOSE 3 SECONDS COUNT
When people land on our websites we have 3 seconds to grab their attention. That’s it. 3, 2, 1, gone. Literally. But by including video above the fold, and video that plays instantly I can cut through the noise and make them want to scroll to see what’s going on.
So if you’re looking at your website right now, I want you to think about what you have above the fold, before anyone scrolls, and ask yourself if it would grab your audience’s attention. Be brutal, because trust me, they will.
#3 – I TOOK SCROLLING TO THE NEXT LEVEL
Once I had people locked in, I made simple scrolling extra special by using parallax imagery. So as my audience navigate through my site my little mug keeps popping up to showcase even more of my personality.
It sounds super simple, but it’s little touches like this that I can deliver for my clients, and my old website never showcased it.
#4 – I MADE MY MISSION STATEMENT POP
One of the key things I work on with all of my clients is making sure their mission statement and message is super clear, and super easy to understand on their website.
So the moment they’re hooked, and they want to know more, the first thing they see is what I stand for, and more importantly, how I can help them.
#5 – I TURNED IT INTO MY SHOP WINDOW
Your website is your digital shop window. That’s a fact. It can do 80-90% of your selling for you. How crazy is that? But like every shop window in the world, it has to showcase what’s in the shop, right?
So that’s why it had to showcase what I can do for my clients. I wanted them to know exactly what I could do for them the moment they land on it. Simple as that.
And that as they say is that. Since launching my new site I’ve had loads of positive feedback, and wayyyyy more enquiries. That’s because it now truly represents who I am and what my biz is all about.
